AI for freelancers: where NOT to start
The question we get most this year isn't whether to use AI, but how to put it into everything right now. And our answer tends to disappoint: probably not yet — or at least not where you think.
It's not skepticism, it's order. Applied AI is powerful when it acts on an ordered business. On a scattered one, it just creates chaos faster.
The mistake: AI as the first layer
Plugging an assistant into a business whose information lives in five places and whose processes are manual fixes nothing: it automates the mess. AI can't tell which of the three versions of the brief is the right one if you're not sure either.
The order that does work
- First, context: a single place with the truth of your business.
- Then, processes: let the repetitive flow without you.
- And only then, AI: assistants that act on that ordered base.
When you reach AI with the first two layers solved, it stops being a chatbot and starts being genuinely useful. That's why the diagnostic tells you which layer is yours before selling you the trendy one.
