Let the AI propose, and you decide

When we talk about applied AI with freelancers, the objection is almost never "I don't know how to use it". It's a different one: "I don't want it changing things without me knowing". A proposal with the wrong price or a deliverable that doesn't sound like you costs more than the time the AI saves.

It's a sensible objection. And the answer isn't giving up on AI, but deciding what it can see and what it can do without asking you.

Suggest instead of change

Since August 28 you can ask the Notion agent to suggest edits instead of applying them. The changes show up as suggestions and you approve them from top to bottom, one by one: nothing changes until you accept it. Notion recommends it for line-level changes, like a grammar pass.

Share only what it needs

The other half of trust is access. Since August 7 you can give a Custom Agent a doc or a database straight from the Share menu, just as you would with a person, without going into the agent's settings. Its context is exactly what you gave it, no more, no less.

Three uses to start this week

  • Review a proposal before sending it: typos, long sentences and figures that don't match your price list.
  • A style pass on a deliverable so it sounds like you, not like a template.
  • Update the description of your services without rewriting it from scratch.

It's the same logic as with someone joining the team: first they propose and you review; once you trust them, you give them more room. At Nouflow we call it using Notion as both brain and firewall: the AI works on your system, under the rules you set.
