Don't marry an AI: marry your context

If you use AI in your business, you know the feeling: just as you've got the hang of one tool, another comes out that does it better. Switching means explaining everything again, uploading documents again and rebuilding what you already had working.

The problem is where the valuable part lives. If your context (clients, projects, the way you work) sits inside one specific AI tool, you're tied to it. If it lives in your system, the AI becomes interchangeable.

What changed this month

Notion's last two updates point exactly in that direction:

  • With Notion 3.8, on October 13, any MCP-compatible agent can read your workspace context and update docs and tasks. You can work with Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor without starting from zero in each one.
  • You can also connect your ChatGPT plan to use it inside Notion.
  • On October 19 Notion rebuilt its own agents: they now have their own computer and browser, a review mode with safety checks, and they can spend up to 24 hours on a task.
  • Auto, the automatic model router, picks the right model for each task, balancing quality, speed and cost. You no longer need to know which model suits which job.

What it means for a freelancer

The important decision isn't which AI to use, but where your business lives. If your information is in one place, your processes are defined and your instructions are written down, you can switch models or assistants in an afternoon. If not, every switch is a house move.

A practical note: Notion has also announced a new credit system that brings all AI usage together. If you already work with agents, check how it affects your bill before adding more.

We said it in July: AI without context is a chatbot; AI with context is an employee. October confirms the other half: the context is yours, and the AI is whichever fits you best at the time. Want to know if your operation is ready? Take the 2-minute diagnostic or write to us.
